Hetch Hetchy Valley

Join us for an unforgettable 2 day / 1 night backpacking trip in Yosemite's glacier carved Hetch Hetchy Valley. We'll gaze at mesmerizing 2,000 foot cliffs that drop to the water's edge.  Pass several waterfalls that can only be reached by hiking. The weather in Hetch Hetchy should not be very cold in October at 4,000 feet. Other higher elevation parts of Yosemite may already be having some snow accumulation .

Truly Spectacular

Hetch Hetchy looks very much like Yosemite Valley accept Hetch Hetchy has fewer people and has been flooded by the O'Shaughnessy Dam.

The Route

This backpacking trip will begin at 10AM by crossing the controversial O'Shaughnessy Dam at the west end of Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. We will then continue along the north side of the reservoir for 6.4 miles passing several waterfalls along the way including Tueeulala Falls and Wapama Falls before reaching Rancheria Falls Campground where the group will camp.

We will be sure to take the short hike from the campground up to the footbridge that crosses at the top of Rancheria Falls. The next morning we will enjoy breakfast and coffee before starting the hike back to our cars.

Waterfalls and Kolana Rock

We will see the trully amazing Tueeulala Falls, Wapama Falls, and Rancheria Falls. The hike will also offer many spectacular views of the glacier cut Hetch Hetchy Valley and Kolana Rock which towers 2,000 feet above the reservoir.

We're Legit

Our Adventure Trip, LLC has been granted a commercial use authorization in Yosemite National Park. The guide (myself) has medical certification as a Wilderness First Responder, Leave No Trace Trainer certification, and a California Food Handler Card.  We will take care of the overnight backpacking permits.

Needed Gear

We encourage you to bring your own gear if you have it. However, you may reserve the use of our gear if you let us know a few days in advance. Every person / couple will need a tent, sleeping pads, warm sleeping bag, water containers, and a hiking backpack that can fit these things inside.

Food and Water

We'll provide food but feel free to bring your own especially if you have dietary restrictions. Yosemite rules require all food that is left unattended must be inside a bear proof canister. Yosemite rents these canisters out at the park entrance for a small fee. We will be drinking and cooking with filtered water  from sources along our hike. We will be happy to filter water for you to fill your containers with.

Group Gear

Everyone will be required to carry a little bit of group gear such as food and cooking gear.

Challenging (the way we like it)

This hike could be challenging for those who are not in good physical shape. This hike is for adults at least 18 years old. The group leader will set a pace that allows everyone to keep up.

Let's Follow the Rules

Participants agree to abide by Yosemite National Park rules and regulations including campfire restrictions that are sometimes in place during dry conditions. When backcountry campfires are allowed, Yosemite rules require campfires to be in existing rock fire rings. Gas stoves are always acceptable.
